| Freyschmidt Koehler/Zimmer's Borderlands of Normal and Early Pathological Findings in Skeletal Radiography ErrataPage 392: The text in column 1 should continue as follows: example is plagiocephaly, which results from the premature unilateral fusion of a coronal suture. It is marked by asymmetrical frontal and parietal flattening on the ipsilateral side. An advanced degree of suture obliteration can be detected on radiographs by absence of the suture line or of sutural interdigitations. Early suture closure is more difficult to detect. In these cases the suture line is narrowed and is not bordered by sharp, thin bone edges, as is normally the case, but by blunt or even slightly raised bony margins. Even if the premature fusion is confined to a short segment of the suture, it is tantamount to functional insufficiency of the entire suture. Secondary changes in the calvarium depend on the degree and duration of the raniosynostosis and include increased convolutional markings (beaten brass appearance), thinning of the calvarium, and deepening of dural sinus grooves. |
