New Teaching Atlas of Acupuncture Gets Right to the Point

New York/Stuttgart - Thieme Publishers is pleased to announce the release of the Teaching Atlas of Acupuncture Volume 1: Channels and Points written by Piero Ettore Quirico, M.D., and Tiziana Pedrali, M.D. The comprehensive atlas-textbook integrates Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with western medicine by studying the fundamentals and clinical practice of acupuncture.

Dr. Quirico and his wife Dr. Pedrali write, "The aim of this book is to give acupuncturists and acupuncture students an effective learning and reference tool that can accurately provide the location, method of locating, anatomic relations, and main clinical indications for every acupuncture point."

The Teaching Atlas of Acupuncture Volume 1 provides concrete answers and guidance on a wide range of questions pertaining to anatomy in acupuncture practice. It consists of more than 400 pages that are divided into four sections. The first section offers a concise review of all major acupuncture points, presenting their clinical applications in table format. This is followed by a second section of more than 200 full-color illustrations of superb quality. Cross-sections depict concrete anatomic structures in the vicinity of each acupuncture point, illustrating skin, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and bones. Additional information on auricular and scalp acupuncture points, Chinese therapeutic techniques other than acupuncture, and reflexology plates, round out the two main sections of the book.

The atlas-textbook consists of descriptions of the 361 regular acupuncture points, and of 50 extra points. It provides the reader with detailed information for each point, including the name, location, needling method, de qi, and clinical indications.

The forthcoming volume 2, Clinical Indications, is an ideal supplement to this atlas, providing detailed clinical indications and comparisons between Western and TCM indications for each acupuncture point.
