| Avery Oral Development and Histology ErrataWe would like to advise you that the 3rd edition of Oral Development and Histology contains a number of mistakes. The following is a list of corrections. Where it was necessary to correct a figure, we have posted a PDF file of the relevant page containing the corrected figure, which is accessible by clicking on the figure number. If you do not already have it, you will need to download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these references. Corrections: Page VII: Daniel J. Page 164: The fourth sentence of the last paragraph should read:These cross striations are found to occur in human teeth as repeating structures 2 to 6 microns apart … Page 176: The first sentence of the fourth paragraph should read: Matrix vesicles are membranous structures that arise by budding from cells, for example, from chondrocytes, osteoblasts, or odontoblasts. Page 182: The legend for Fig. 10.15 should read:Reactionary dentin. Odontoblasts can be seen overlying a layer of secondary dentin. Between the reactionary and secondary dentin, there is a pronounced calciotraumatic line. The legend for Fig. 10.16A should read: Reactionary dentin. Note a large zone of dentinal matrix deposited by surviving original postmitotic odontoblasts that had been stimulated by a relatively mild stimulus. This tubular reactionary dentinal matrix was deposited immediately beneath the area of dentin submitted to the stimulus. Figure 10.16C: Labels: "Reactionary dentin" should read "Reparative dentin"; "Reparative dentin should read "Reactionary dentin." The legend should read: Ground section showing cervical caries. Note the transparent dentin overlying the dead tract. Area showing reparative dentin with sparse tubules overlies area of reactionary dentin, as seen by polarized microscopy. Pulp seen at the bottom of the figure. The figure to the right of Fig. 10.16C is Fig. 10.16D: Labels: "Reactionary dentin" should read "Reparative dentin"; "Reparative dentin should read "Reactionary dentin." The legend should read: Area bordering pulp in "C" in higher magnification and seen in polarized light. Note reparative dentin overlying reactionary dentin. A calciotraumatic line separates the two. Page 184: The first sentence of the legend for Fig. 10.21 should read: A scanning electron micrograph of an odontoblastic process after decalcification and removal of the organic components of dentin. Page 197: Fig. 11.14. Corrected lead line for "Dendritic cells." Fig. 11.16. Corrected lead line for "Red stained cells." Page 201: Fig. 11.28. Corrected lead line for "CGRP labeled V cell body."
