Planta Medica: Steadily Increasing Journal Impact Factor

Thieme's journal Planta Medica recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. First published in June of 1953 with the subtitle "Journal for Medicinal Plant Application and Research", Planta Medica soon dropped the application focus and concentrated on research-related articles about medicinal plants.

Since 1978, Planta Medica has been published in English and has given attention to the whole spectrum of medicinal plants and natural products. It does so with ever-growing success: The journal increased its frequency from six issues per year (until 1997) to eight (since 1998), then nine issues (in 2001), and finally to 12 issues per year since 2002.

The journal's impact factor has been increasing as continually: from 1.322 in 1998 to 1.438 in 1999, 1.831 in 2000, 2.085 in 2001, up to 2.289 in 2002.

This makes Planta Medica the leading international journal in natural product research!
