In 2005 Thieme embarked on a new path in the history of the publishing company by developing a series of anatomy education products using the exquisite illustrations of Karl Wesker and Markus Voll.

The series began with the release of Thieme Atlas of Anatomy: General Anatomy and Musculoskeletal System. In 2006, Thieme Atlas of Anatomy: Neck and Internal Organs was released. The next year, Thieme Atlas of Anatomy: Head and Neuroanatomy was published. Each atlas was complemented by an image collection that made the beautiful artwork available on a DVD.

The success of the three topic-specific atlases spurred the publication of a more comprehensive atlas in a single volume, Atlas of Anatomy. A host of ancillary products designed specifically for students and faculty, have followed, including an online presentation tool for faculty, and flash cards and a free study website for students.
