Thieme Publishers signs agreement with the NorthEast Research Libraries Consortium (NERL) to license the full program of Thieme online journals, reinforcing Thieme's commitment to facilitating access to high-quality information for the academic sector.

New York, NY - February 4, 2002: Thieme Publishers, one of the world's largest independent medical publishers, has signed an agreement with the NorthEast Research Libraries Consortium (NERL, http://www.library.yale.edu/NERLpublic) to license the full program of Thieme's high-quality online journals.

The NERL agreement will enable participating top northeastern academic institutes to gain online access to more than 80 titles in the fields of medicine, medical research, chemistry and life sciences through the e-journal gateway Thieme-Connect. Thieme-Connect (www.thieme-connect.com) is the user-friendly platform providing fast internet access to Thieme's esteemed and highly-relevant journal collection.

The agreement further extends the reach of Thieme's content following an agreement with OhioLink, a consortium of the libraries of 78 Ohio colleges and universities and the State Library of Ohio, signed in 2001.

Stuttgart, June 2001 - With immediate effect Bernd Hess (35) is in charge of marketing and sales of contents of the Thieme publishing group electronic journals database under Thieme-connect.de/com. Hess, an arts and humanities scholar, joined the Thieme group following his activity with Swets Blackwell, where his customers were libraries inter alia in South Germany and in parts of eastern Europe. His Thieme group responsibilities include promoting the licensing of contents of electronic specialist journals for institutional and industrial customers in Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.

His colleague Dr. Kristina Kurz (32) occupies the newly created position of Electronic Products Sales Manager with the Thieme affiliates in New York where she looks after the sales of Thieme-connect contents in English language areas. She is a graduated chemist who joined Georg Thieme Verlag in 1998 as programme planner for chemical specialist journals before transferring her activities to New York.

The electronic journals database Thieme-connect contents 80 journals in the field of medicine and science.

Thieme wishes to congratulate M. Gazi Yasargil, MD for being named "Man of the Century 1950-1999" by Neurosurgery, the official journal of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. The journal stated that Dr. Yasargil "has made outstanding contributions which have provided our basis for practice and the definitions of our field."

Dr. Yasargil served as Chairman of the Department of Neurosugery at University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland for more than 20 years. During that time, he was a pioneer in the field of microneurosurgery. He has written several books on the subject, which have become the standard in the field. Dr. Yasargil's landmark series, Microneurosurgery, can be purchased on the Thieme website.
