This website has been developed to accompany a Textbook of Integrative Mental Health Care by James Lake M.D., Thieme Medical Publishers, Inc. The information contained in this site is primarily intended for clinicians, however some individuals receiving treatment for a mental health problem may obtain useful information that can be brought up at future sessions with their therapist.
The website can be used as a stand-alone resource, however the clinical information in the evidence tables is best understood when the reader is familiar with important basic concepts and methods of integrative mental health care developed in the textbook. Detailed contents of the textbook can be found here.
The website consists of four basic sections:
Tables summarizing the evidence for integrative approaches for managing two or more complex mental and emotional problems at the same time
Tables summarizing the evidence for non-conventional assessment and treatment approaches of common mental and emotional problems
Reviews of significant on-going research in integrative mental health care. This section emphasizes studies funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), U.S. National Institutes of Health
Links to useful web-based resources on alternative and integrative mental health care
The evidence tables on this website will be updated on an on-going basis as significant new research findings emerge in order to provide both practitioners with the most current information.
Please note that the tables summarize the evidence for non-conventional assessment and treatment approaches in broad overview. In-depth discussions of the principles of integrative medicine, philosophical issues, emerging paradigms, and methodology are presented in the textbook. Detailed reviews of studies on the range of biological, mind-body, somatic, and energy-information approaches used to assess or treat common mental and emotional symptoms can be found in Part II of the textbook. Click here for table of contents.
