The Thieme Medical Publishers internship program offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field of medical publishing and to have direct contact with professionals in the field. Interns are required to provide general office assistance to all departments (phones, faxing, filing, xeroxing) but are strongly encouraged to specify an interest in one of the departments mentioned below. All interns are welcome to attend essential editorial, production and sales meetings. The ideal candidate will have strong computer, communication and organizational skills. Previous book or magazine experience and language skills are a plus but not required.
Editorial Learn everything about how a book is born from conception to publication. This is a great opportunity to get a taste for the editorial side of professional publishing regardless of one's major or field of study. Thieme is a leading publisher in such diverse fields as radiology, orthopedic surgery, audiology and neurosurgery. What we do isn’t rocket science, but we are the best there is at brain surgery—books that is.
Production If you wonder how books are produced and what steps are involved to make a manuscript into a finished title, consider this department. This is a great chance to learn about copyediting, design and printing. This department is ideal for detail-oriented candidates. Previous production experience is a great benefit.
Marketing Our global marketing program includes direct mail, website, e-mail campaigns, space advertising, and book reviews. Marketing Interns will work in a forward-thinking environment with true hands-on opportunities. This is for hard working, enthusiastic students who want to gain real-world Marketing experience in a short period of time.
Web The Web Internship offers an exciting opportunity to learn valuable web skills while working within the Marketing department. Responsibilities include assisting our web team with publishing and online duties, and performing internet research. Applicants with HTML skills are preferred. Applicants interested in learning about web development and website design are urged to apply!
Sales Get involved in compiling advance and promotional material, planning and organizing medical exhibits, and dealing with distributors such as wholesalers and bookstores in the Americas while learning the tricks of the trade! This is great for someone with good organizational skills. Previous bookstore or other sales experience, and fluency in other languages is a plus.
