New York/Stuttgart – Thieme is pleased to announce the addition of an innovative concussion journal to its portfolio of expanding open access publications. Sports-related concussions are a major contributor to traumatic brain injuries, accounting for an estimated 1.6 to 3.8 million injuries each year in the U.S. alone. “Current Research: Concussion provides an unparalleled opportunity to disseminate state-of-the-art research on a topic of great importance to everyone involved in sports, as well as medical practitioners and the general public”, says Daniel Schiff, MD, Senior Vice President, Thieme Publishers.
Since its launch in 2014, Current Research: Concussion has aimed to bridge the gap between concussion awareness and knowledge. Led by Editor-in-Chief Neilank K. Jha, MD, the editorial board is comprised of renowned experts on sports-related concussion, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and injury prevention. “Current Research: Concussion strives to provide a vehicle for researchers around the globe to share their work, and for practitioners to stay informed about the latest concussion management protocols. The ultimate objective is to make available robust clinical data for an evidence-based approach to concussion management”, states Dr. Jha. Therefore, a primary focus of the journal is the dissemination of large, multi-centered clinical trials targeted at determining the potential efficacy of concussion treatments and diagnostic tools.
Exciting new innovations are planned for the coming months and years, starting with the very first complete online publication. In the pipeline are articles on diagnostic and treatment advances as well as on changing concussion policies impacting the workplace and sports. Regular podcasts feature key members of the concussion community, providing new and expanded insights on articles published in every issue.
Current Research: Concussion joins a prestigious group of Thieme sports medicine journals, including International Journal of Sports Medicine, an acclaimed longstanding Thieme publication, as well as Sports Medicine International Open.
Relevant submission and publication information on Current Research: Concussion is available at Thieme Open (http://open.thieme.com). The online platform provides a complete overview of the multiple open access publication options offered by the Thieme Group. All articles published in open access journals are freely available to readers via the Thieme Online Books & Journals Platform (https://www.thieme-connect.de/products/all/home.html?lang=en).
