New York/StuttgartThe Maxillary Sinus: Medical and Surgical Management, published by Thieme, is the definitive multimedia reference for the care of maxillary sinus problems. Located behind the cheekbones, the maxillary sinuses frequently require revision surgery and are identified by clinicians as the most difficult paranasal sinuses to consistently keep healthy following a procedure. According to author Dr. James A. Duncavage from Vanderbilt University, "There are no other textbooks focused on the maxillary sinus."

"By addressing the management of sinus disease from the perspective of a single sinus," says Dr. Duncavage, "we hope that this text and [the] accompanying DVD-videos will help otolaryngologists obtain an increased understanding of the range of pathologic conditions that their patients bring to their offices and ultimately assist them in delivering improved care to their patients."

Experts from around the globe have come together to collaborate on this multi-dimensional reference. The book begins with a general overview of embryology, surgical anatomy, and imaging, followed by concise chapters that guide the reader through the full range of pathologic conditions.

Exceptional features include three chapters written by top rhinologists in India, China, and Japan discussing management strategies that are perhaps unfamiliar to their Western counterparts. Three hours of state-of-the-art surgical footage covered in more than 70 videos demonstrate every technique presented in the text. High-resolution radiographs along with photographs, illustrations, charts and pearls—with handy tips in every chapter—enable readers to absorb key concepts.

"There has been a variety of advancements regarding the efficacy of different surgical techniques to treat the maxillary sinus, as well as advances in our understanding of the pathophysiology and medical management of sinus disease," says co-author Samuel S. Becker. "It is for this reason that we have found this single sinus deserving of the focus and detailed analysis allowed in this combined book and audiovisual format."

The Maxillary Sinus: Medical and Surgical Management is a clear and accessible guide that covers the latest treatment options in a manner that will meet the needs of fellows, residents and practicing physicians in rhinology and otolaryngology–head and neck surgery.
