New York/Stuttgart – Thieme author Vikram S. Dogra, MD, has been awarded lifetime membership to the Turkish Radiological and Ultrasound Societies for his outstanding contribution to medical education in Turkey. He is the first person to be distinguished with this honor in the history of either society, both of which were founded in 1924.
Over the past decade, Dr. Dogra has helped more than two dozen Turkish students – all of them now full professors at universities in Turkey – come to the United States to do their graduate work in radiology.
“Through the years we have worked together on research, book chapters, and articles for all kinds of publications,” said Dr. Dogra, whose widely anticipated book Ultrasound-Guided Procedures was released by Thieme in October of this year. “And gradually this grew into a familiarity with the people and the country and we developed a kind of closeness, a friendship.”
Dr. Dogra, is currently on sabbatical in Turkey at the renowned Hacettepe University in Ankara. He will return to the United States briefly to attend the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting in Chicago (11/29–12/4) and resume his fulltime position as Director of Ultrasound and Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester in February 2010.
