Thieme Account

What is the Thieme Account?

The Thieme Account is your personal user profile for all Thieme digital products. You can view and manage your personal information, redeem access codes, unlock journals, and link it with your organization's account. To personalize your use of digital products - such as creating notes and playlists, setting up alerts, or similar features - registering for a Thieme Account is required.

What features does the Thieme Account offer?

Registration

How it works:

  1. Create login credentials
    Enter your email address and a password to register your Thieme Account. You will need these credentials later to log into our digital products. Make sure your password meets the specified security requirements.

  2. Accept the terms of use and privacy policy
    Before proceeding to the next step, please carefully read our terms of use and privacy policy. Check the boxes to confirm your agreement.

  3. Salutation, first name, and last name
    To address you correctly, we ask that you provide your salutation, first name, and last name.

  4. Verify email address
    We will send you an email to verify the provided address. This ensures that you have access to the specified inbox. Open the email and click on the verification link. Please note that the link will only be valid for 30 minutes for security reasons.

After verification, you can start using your Thieme Account immediately.

Login

How it works:

Enter your email address and password in the login form. If you already have an older account with a username different from your email address, you can continue to use that account to log in.

Forgot your password?

How it works:

  1. Forgot your password?
    If you have forgotten your password, click the "Reset Password" link below the password field on the login screen.

  2. Enter your email address
    Enter the email address you used when registering your Thieme account and confirm by clicking "Reset Password."

  3. Receive an email to change your password
    You will receive an email with a link to set a new password. Click on the "Link to change your password" or copy the link into your browser. Please note that the link is only valid for 15 minutes for security reasons.

  4. Set a new password
    Enter your new password and confirm it. Make sure your new password meets the security requirements.

Redeem an access code

Access codes allow you to unlock Thieme products for use. You can receive these codes, for example, in the Thieme webshop or they are printed in many Thieme print publications. To redeem an access code, you need a Thieme Account.

How it works:

  1. In your Thieme product, click on the "Activate access code" link, or log in to your Thieme Account and click "Activate access code" on the homepage.

  2. Enter the access code and confirm by clicking the "Activate access code" button.

  3. After a few minutes, the unlocked product will appear under "My Products."

Activate your digital journal subscription

How it works:

  1. In your Thieme product, click on the "Activate journal subscription" link and log in to your Thieme Account.

  2. Select your journal and enter your subscription number. You can find your subscription number on the shipping label of your journal, directly above the address, between the two "#" symbols.

  3. Confirm your entries by clicking the "Activate journal subscription" button.

My data

Manage your personal data in the Thieme Account.

  • Tab "Account"
    In this section, you can view and edit all the information required for creating your Thieme Account. This includes your salutation, first and last name, email address, and password.

  • Tabs "Studies" and "Career"
    To provide you with a better and more personalized user experience, we ask for information about your studies or professional activity. This information is optional and helps us to improve our offerings in a targeted way.

  • Changing your email address
    If you would like to change your email address, please contact our customer service. If you wish to delete your Thieme Account, our customer service will also be happy to assist you.

My organizations and remote access

You can link your Thieme account to your organization to gain access to its licenses and resources. This link is temporary. To ensure continued access, you must either be within your organization’s IP network or authenticate via Shibboleth.

Organization Recognition

Make sure we have correctly identified your organization. This depends on the authentication method your organization uses. Check whether you are connected to your organization’s IP network or VPN, or authenticate via Shibboleth. Once your organization has been successfully recognized, its name will be displayed on the homepage of all Thieme products.

IP Authentication

If you are connected to your organization’s IP network or VPN, your affiliation will be automatically recognized when you access a Thieme product. Once you log into your personal Thieme account, your organization will be displayed under "My Organizations," where you can manually activate remote access.

Shibboleth / OpenAthens

Shibboleth and OpenAthens are authentication methods primarily used by educational institutions and libraries to enable secure access to online resources.

How it works:

  1. On the login screen for personal access, click the "Login via Shibboleth/OpenAthens" button.

  2. Select your organization and confirm by clicking "Proceed to Login." You will be redirected to your organization’s login page, where you can authenticate with your credentials.

  3. After successful authentication, you will be redirected back to the Thieme product, and your organization will be recognized.

  4. When you log into your personal Thieme account, your organization will appear under "My Organizations," allowing you to manually activate remote access.

Invite Link

If your organization does not support Shibboleth or IP authentication, an administrator within your organization can send you an invitation link via email. By following this link, you will be guided to register for a Thieme account. Once the registration is complete, the newly created account will automatically become a member of the organization you were invited to. If you already have a Thieme account, the invitation link will simply associate your existing account with the organization—no new registration is required. To extend your organization membership, please contact your administrator.

Access code

If your organization does not support Shibboleth or IP authentication, an administrator within your organization can provide you with an access code. Redeeming the code will link your Thieme account to your organization, allowing you to use its licenses. To extend your organization membership, please contact your administrator.

Activating Remote Access

Once your organization has been successfully recognized, you can link your Thieme account to it. This grants you access to the organization’s licenses without needing to authenticate via IP, Shibboleth, or an access link each time. Remote access is valid for 180 days. If you authenticate again via IP, Shibboleth, or an access link within this period, proving your continued affiliation, the remote access will automatically be extended for another 180 days.

Automatic Activation

Remote access is automatically enabled when you register for a Thieme account after your organization has been successfully recognized.

How it works:

  1. Access a Thieme product and ensure that your organization has been successfully recognized. This depends on the authentication method your organization uses (IP authentication or Shibboleth).

  2. Click "Create New Account" on the login screen and complete the registration process.

  3. Your organization will now be displayed under "My Organizations" in your Thieme account. Remote access is active. If needed, you can manually disable it using a button.
Manual Activation

How it works:

  1. Access a Thieme product and ensure that your organization has been successfully recognized. This depends on the authentication method your organization uses (IP authentication or Shibboleth).

  2. Log into your Thieme account using your email address and password.

  3. In your Thieme account, under "My Organizations," you will see your organization listed. From there, you can manually activate remote access.

Extending Remote Access

Remote access is limited to 180 days. You will receive an email notification 14 days before it expires. If you authenticate again via IP or Shibboleth within this period, confirming your continued affiliation with the organization, your remote access will be automatically extended for another 180 days.

If the 180-day period has already expired, automatic renewal is no longer possible. In this case, you must follow the steps outlined above to activate remote access again.
