The focus of our work is on people in all their diversity
The “Charta der Vielfalt,” or Diversity Charter, is an employer initiative to promote diversity in companies and organizations in Germany. Thieme has been a member since 2024. By signing the Diversity Charter, we signal our dedication to the inclusion and participation of all people and against exclusion. We commit to creating an appreciative and prejudice-free working environment and promoting equal opportunities for employees.
The topics of diversity, equity and inclusive collaboration are firmly anchored at Thieme in both management training and internal communication. We are convinced that a greater awareness of the various aspects of diversity also has a positive impact on product development. Given the focus in medicine on treating people, it is especially important to take the diversity of genders, cultures and ethnicities more into account in medical training and care.
At Thieme, we are actively committed to inclusion and diversity – in the company, in research and science and in medicine. In everyday working life, it can be difficult to live and show your gender identity authentically. That's why Thieme employees have the option of using pronouns in their email signature. This allows them to show their internal and external contacts how they wish to be addressed in the third person. As a company with employees from different countries and cultures, sharing pronouns can also be helpful if a name is unfamiliar or not exclusively associated with a particular gender.
In everyday life, we often consciously or unconsciously infer a person's gender identity from their name and appearance and choose the corresponding pronouns. However, these assumptions are not always correct.
People whose gender identity does not match the gender they were assigned at birth often face particular challenges in the workplace. They often experience exclusion and hostility. At Thieme, we offer a welcoming and open environment. Sharing pronouns can also be beneficial if a colleague or contact has a name that is not exclusively associated with a particular gender or may be unfamiliar to colleagues or people from a different country or culture.
Therefore, for us the pronouns are a sign of respectful interaction with one another that includes everyone and recognizes diversity – both inside and outside the Thieme Group. At the same time, we speak out against any form of discrimination.
