In 1886, Georg Thieme founded the publishing house of the same name, which passed into the ownership of the Hauff family in 1925. In the meantime, the Thieme Group is managed in the fourth generation by Dr. h.c. Albrecht Hauff together with Lilian Matischok, Dr. Nino Ostertag, Katrin Siems and Martin Spencker. The Management Board focuses on the strategic development and overarching management of Thieme: A particular focus of its activities is on driving forward the digital transformation in the globally active company. Responsibility for the operational business is borne by entrepreneurial leaders.
Dr. h.c. Albrecht Hauff
Dr. Albrecht Hauff (*1954) holds a degree in business administration and has been a personally liable partner of the Thieme Group since 1990. He joined the family business in 1982 and has since steered the further development of the Thieme Group into a digital healthcare service provider.
In 2006, the Medical Faculty of the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen awarded him an honorary doctorate for his services in mediating between medicine and science. The entrepreneur was also active on the university council there for many years.
Dr. Albrecht Hauff is also involved in numerous committees in the media industry and in public life: He served for many years as a board member on the publishing committee of the Börsenverein für den Deutschen Buchhandel (German Publishers and Booksellers Association) and on the board of the Deutsche Fachpresse (German Trade Press). He also served on the Executive Board and other committees of the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (stm). Dr. Hauff supports the German Air Rescue (DRF) as a member of the association's advisory board as well as its foundation board.
As a collector, he is particularly interested in modern, contemporary art. On the board of the Friends of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, he is committed to promoting the museum of the same name and its internationally renowned collection. He was also a member of the board of the Friends of the Literaturhaus Stuttgart e. V. for many years.
Lilian Matischok
Lilian Matischok (*1972) has been responsible for Products & Solutions on the Thieme Management Board since 2022. She shares the leadership role in a "joint leadership" model with Martin Spencker.
The mechanical engineer previously worked at Bosch for more than 20 years - first at Robert Bosch GmbH in the Mobility Solutions business sector, then in the Industrial Technology division. Her focus there was on the one hand on the development of software-based platforms and business models, and on the other on organizational and process development as well as the digital transformation of the associated product areas. Lilian Matischok, for example, prepared the organizational and strategic groundwork for the establishment of the "Bosch Connected Industry" business unit for the development and marketing of software solutions in the Industrie 4.0 context. At the digital healthcare provider Thieme, the tandem appointment ensures a balance between continuity in the existing business and the development of new digital business areas.
Dr. Nino Ostertag
Dr. Nino Ostertag (*1979) is Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer (CFO/COO) in the Thieme Management Board and is responsible for Finance, IT, Human Resources, Production Management, Security, and other operational functions.
He holds a doctorate in business administration and worked as a management consultant at Detecon Schweiz AG. His focus there was on the business effects of technological change. He then worked at T-Systems Schweiz AG and later at STA Travel Group in London as a member of the management team, where he dealt with issues relating to finance, controlling, process development and purchasing. Prior to his activities abroad, Ostertag was managing director of an organization for business management training and continuing education in the healthcare sector.
He has been a member of the Thieme management board since 2020. With his cross-industry experience, the multi-faceted finance and IT expert is driving the digital transformation of the Thieme Group.
Katrin Siems
Katrin Siems (*1980) is a member of the Thieme Management Board and responsible for Marketing and Sales.
After completing her training in publishing and studying foreign trade and international management at Springer Nature, she was responsible for the market launch and sales of electronic products. She then worked for the Berlin-based scientific publisher De Gruyter as Director Business Development. After only one year at De Gruyter, she became Vice President Sales & Marketing and a member of the Executive Board. In this role, she managed the Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, and Rights and Licenses departments.
In 2013, Katrin Siems moved to Beuth Verlag, where she was responsible for marketing, sales, customer service, and CRM. She has been a member of the Thieme management team since 2017. In this role, she coordinates all marketing and sales activities for the Thieme Group. In particular, her extensive expertise in the transfer of analog products into digital solutions and their marketing helps to optimally position existing Thieme products and future innovations on the market and with the target groups.
Martin Spencker
Martin Spencker (*1964) is responsible for Products & Solutions on the Management Board in a joint leadership with Lilian Matischok.
After training at Thieme and studying philosophy at the SJ School of Philosophy in Munich, he gained experience at various national and international publishing houses. In 1993, he returned to Thieme. In 1999, he then took over at Thieme as head of the then educational publishing unit. In 2019, he was given responsibility for the entire Thieme International Business as Executive Vice President. Martin Spencker has shared leadership responsibilities at Thieme with Lilian Matischok in a "joint leadership" model since April 2022.
